Dear valued JRC customer,
We would like to inform you on a very important safety and quality item related to the JRC VDR JCY -1000/1700/1700S/1800/1850/1900/1950. The Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) is a key system for all vessels required to comply with the IMO's International Convention SOLAS Requirements (IMO Res.A.861(20)). The performance of the system is tested on a yearly basis during the annual performance test (APT) by product trained technicians from class approved maritime service companies. Based on this test documentation JRC will issue a certificate of compliance for the system.
Globally, JRC offices and service-partners have noticed an increased number of non-original batteries in the VDR types; JCY-1000/1700/1700S/1800/1850/1900/1950. We would like to emphasize again as a warning that the use of non-original manufactures parts is not allowed and could affect the good operation of the VDR system. The non-original UPS/battery does not conform to VDR/S-VDR type approval and quality standards. Additionally, the use of non-original JRC batteries/UPS could lead to:
- Reduced recording time or no recording at all, in case of loss of power;
- Extreme heat or fire in the battery;
- General nonperformance of the system.
JRC as a manufacturer can not assure the performance of the system when non-original parts are used. We strongly recommend checking if service suppliers use original parts.
We hope to have informed you sufficiently.
With kind regards,
JRC World Management
